As the largest room in the penitentiary, this was the siege of the worst tortures between December 1949 and May 1951. Its name comes from its initial purpose – here functioned the infirmary until l948.
There were three level bunked beds in the room, as well as wooden ledges. In the center of the room, a few tables put together covered by a sheet made up the individual torture place for the victims. The large windows had bars, but were not shuttered, which allowed the prisoners to see outside – at least before torture started. This was a very important detail for some inmates: Gheorghe Stănică remembers seeing a cross on top of a church from the window. This image gave him strength throughout the torments he was submitted to over the coming months.
After 1977, this room became an archive.
