Every aspect of the day had been turned into torture. Ștefan and the others were forced to stand for hours in a fixed position: seated, their hands around the calves, eyes fixed on the tip of their feet. They were not allowed to make any sound or look the other way: at the slightest deviation they were hit by the sentries that guarded them.

They were also forced to rub the floor on their knees while carrying an aggressor who would hit them on their backs. While they cleaned the spaces between beds, the others were forced to hit them with their feet in the abdomen. Then they were forced to do thrusts or stand on one leg until exhaustion, each waiver being a pretext to beat him again.

Even eating was a torture: the hot porridge was poured down their throats, they were forced to the food while laying on their stomach, their hands behind their backs. Their faces would sink in the porridge and they would choke. Eventually, they were forced to squeal or to bite each other’s nose.
