Transferred from Craiova to Pitești in June 1950, after the dismissal of his appeal, Nicolae Purcărea was assigned to room number 1-basement, where, he would later recall, he found "a great harmony." He reunited with old friends or met people he quickly came to admire, like Costache Oprisan, the former country leader of the Brotherhoods of the Cross. They would whisper prayers during the day, teach each other diverse subjects, or take language lessons. And every evening one of them would tell a story based on a book or a movie.
Nicolae Purcărea considered the others brothers suffering the hardships of detention in the struggle against communism. Sometimes he heard screams, but he told himself that there must be people who have just been arrested and suffer the usual torture of the investigation. He had already been through that, and all that was left was for him to carry out his sentence
