Eugen Țurcanu’s statement about the torture endured by Șerban Gheorghe:
In February 1950 he was beaten in Room 4 Hospital, when preparations were done for the unmaskings. He received some slaps, punches and he was hit by some sticks that left no marks. A few days after the first beating I punched him in the chest because he tried to cut his wrists. 4 or 5 days later he was beaten as follows: an oval shaped line of inmates was formed, 7 meters long and 3 meters wide, some inmates holding belts.
In the middle of this group, Șerban Gheorghe, naked, was forced to run while being belt whipped by the people surrounding him. Șerban Gheorghe ran like that for about 15 minutes. All this occurred one late night. The next day, when he was taken out for his medical examination, he took a plunge down the stairwell off the first floor, and I have no knowledge of what happened to him later.
