The inner courtyard was probably one of the places where inmates could spend time outdoors.

In the ‘70s, the inmates would enter the penitentiary through this courtyard. These crosses, brought in at a later time, form a symbolic cemetery dedicated to those inmates who died in prison and whose resting place is unknown.
