Ștefan Davidescu arrived in room 4-hospital in the spring of 1950, in a moment of relative tranquility. Eugen Țurcanu had created in this cell a kind of educational programme that was meant to turn the students into Marxists after undergoing the unmasking.
Ștefan wrote on the wall journal in the room, read Marxist-Leninist books to his colleagues and sang communist songs together with them. After a while, 14 detainees were brought to the room, including Costache Oprișan and Cornel Pop. They were to be the new victims, whose tortures Stephan had to contribute to. Even though he tried to simulate the blows, the fear of being submitted the whole series of tortures again forced him to really strike them. The gradual breakdown he suffered caused him insomnia, and the few hours of sleep were disrupted by nightmares that made him wake up screaming.
For a short time, he escaped from the grim atmosphere the room as he was entrusted by the administration of the prison to make a model of the building. This gave him access to most of the rooms in the prison. At his return to the cell, he took part in the blasphemous rituals performed during Christmas, in 1951, when victims were forced to have communion with urine and feces. Subsequently, he was active in the aggressors committee, being responsible for transcribing the statements of those who underwent the unmasking process.
